Not everything we write is meant to be shared. Some words help us make sense of a moment, hold on to a memory or find our way through an unfamiliar feeling. Salt & Paper explores the idea of a private digital writing space where reflection, creativity and personal expression can unfold without an audience.

Project Overview

Explore a thoughtful digital environment for personal writing, creative reflection and the preservation of private thoughts, memories and experiences.

Salt & Paper is an early-stage digital writing concept designed around the personal value of putting thoughts into words. Rather than encouraging public sharing, it explores how technology might create a quieter, more intimate relationship with writing.

The concept combines the familiarity of a personal notebook with a contemporary digital experience. It explores different ways of writing, remembering and reflecting through a collection of distinctive spaces, each encouraging a different form of expression.

Approach

Create a space where writing belongs to the writer.

The approach begins with privacy, emotional authenticity and creative freedom. Salt & Paper is conceived as an alternative to platforms built around publishing, performance and social engagement, giving people room to write for themselves.

Process

Translate the intimacy of a personal notebook into an exploratory digital experience.

Early development has explored the visual identity, landing page and dashboard of a reflective writing platform. Proposed spaces include The Desk, Tide Notes, Atmosphere, Soundtrack, Atlas and Sweat & Tears, each offering a different way to approach personal expression.

Literary, intimate and quietly expressive. The design should encourage contemplation without becoming overly precious or complicated. Typography, atmosphere and a sense of personal ownership are central to the experience.

An initial digital prototype explores the atmosphere, navigation and visual language of Salt & Paper, establishing a foundation for further experimentation.

The initial prototype includes an exploratory landing page and dashboard. More advanced reflective and AI-assisted features remain concepts for future development and require further design, testing and validation.
